Applying to College

Texas Public Colleges and Universities
Students wishing to apply to public colleges and universities in Texas can do so using the Apply Texas application.
Some private Texas colleges and universities will also take this application. A list of participating schools is located on the website.

Private Colleges and Universities
Students wishing to apply to private colleges and universities can do so using the Common App application. A list of participating schools is located on this website.  You may also check the individual college/university website for other application alternatives.

Out of State Public Colleges and Universities
Students wishing to apply to out of state colleges and universities should check the individual websites for those institutions.  Many will allow students to apply using the Common App application, or some might have their own application procedure.

Letters of Recommendation

Schools that request recommendation letters typically prefer 2-3 letters.

Students needing teacher recommendations should ask the teacher in person and then request it on Naviance. Please remember that teachers are not required to write recommendations and often must write them on their own time. Therefore, please give the teachers adequate time to write your letter and be understanding if the teacher is not able to write a letter for you.  Some teachers have limits on the number of letters they will write.

All students who apply via the Common App need a counselor recommendation.  The recommendation should be requested at least 3 weeks prior to the admission deadline. Counselors require the student to fill out a counselor recommendation packet (found in the document library on your Naviance account).  After receiving the completed information, the counselor may schedule an interview for further information.

More information about recommendation letters and 'brag sheets' can be found HERE

All scholarship information received by AISD is posted in Naviance.  Information is also sent to the student email address listed in Naviance.  Scholarship deadlines vary, so check Naviance and your email frequently for newly posted information.
