ACC Dual Credit Information

DUAL CREDIT INFORMATIONAL MEETING

Monday, JANUARY 30th, 2023
6:00 PM VIA ZOOM

https://austinisd-org.zoom.us/j/86223822108

What is Dual Credit?
ACC (Austin Community College) and AISD have a partnership that allows students to take up to 12 classes tuition free during their high school career.  The classes available include those that are part of ACC’s Core Curriculum.  Several of those courses have been also designated to ‘count’ towards AISD’s graduation requirements – so students who take these dual credit classes may earn not only ACC college credit, but high school credit as well (hence the name ‘dual’ credit) 😊

Even better, we have chosen several popular ACC courses that we offer at Anderson that are integrated into your class schedule – ACC professors come to Anderson and teach these courses on our campus during certain class periods.  Also, all dual credit courses are weighted on a 5.0 scale (like AP, Honors, IB, Onramps) when calculated into your AHS GPA!

ACC courses are transferrable to all Texas public colleges, and most out of state public colleges, and many private schools as well.

Students may also take courses in the summer at any ACC campus or online.

Technically, all high school students are eligible to take dual credit classes – BUT, you have to first show ‘college readiness’ through either sufficient scores on PSAT, ACT, SAT, EOC tests OR you can take the TSI test – an online, untimed test that I will adminster to students that measures proficiency in reading, writing & math.  You may view a chart with more information about this requirement HERE.

AFTER we determine that you are ‘college ready’, I will walk you through the application and enrollment process.  Classes are filled on a first come, first served basis, and enrollment (which you do after you apply to ACC) happens in April for summer courses, and May for fall courses.  I will walk you through the process every step of the way!

So, if you think dual credit is for you, you will have the option to choose these courses on your choice sheet when it becomes available!  You are not committed by doing so, as you can change your schedule until August.

What’s next?
Interested in learning more?  Please click HERE and fill out the google form and I will contact you with additional information!

I will then check your college readiness test scores (if you have them) and if you need to take the TSI test, I’ll communicate with you individually and schedule a time to take it.  If you have qualifying test scores, I’ll communicate next steps for you as well!

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions!  I hope you will consider taking advantage of this great opportunity to earn college credit, get exposed to college coursework and teaching style, and potentially reduce your course load in high school and / or college!
